The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Uttarakhand on Thursday. IMD has also issued an orange alert for Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. At the same time, weather is expected to be normal in most areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Apart from this, Yellow alert has been issued in all other states of the country, expressing the possibility of rain.
According to IMD, heavy rains are expected in Karnataka coastal areas and in the central part of Maharashtra. A warning has been issued for these places. At the same time, an alert has been issued for Thursday and Friday in Uttarakhand. In such a situation, the administration is cautious here. Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir, there has been fierce havoc in the last few days.
Thousands of devotees stranded in Chamba, Himachal
Thousands of devotees who have gone on Manimahesh Yatra in Himachal Pradesh are stranded at many places in Chamba due to rain -damaged roads. The journey was postponed on Monday due to bad weather. Local MLAs said that relatives and friends of devotees are concerned about the safety of their loved ones, as mobile connectivity has come to a standstill in most parts of Chamba district after heavy rains in the last few days. The state government on Wednesday said in the assembly that steps are being taken to evacuate the devotees. Starting from the 17th of this month, the Manimahesh Yatra will conclude on 15 September. According to Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayar, thousands of pilgrims are stranded in Chamba, Bharmour, Saloni and other parts of the district due to the roads being damaged. Churah MLA Hans Raj has stated the number of pilgrims about 10,000.
584 roads closed in Himachal Pradesh
A total of 584 roads are closed in 10 out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh and reports have not yet been received from Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti districts. According to the Center, 259 of the closed roads are in Mandi district and 167 in Kullu. SEOC reported that about 1155 power supply transformers and 346 water supply schemes were interrupted. The local Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of heavy rains in different areas of three to six districts of the state till Sunday. According to SEOC, at least 158 people have died in rain -related incidents in Himachal Pradesh between June 20 and August 26, while 38 people are missing. So far, there have been 90 cases of sudden floods in the state, 42 cases of cloudburst and 85 landslides. According to SEOC data, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 2,623 crore in rain -related incidents.
Orange alert for coastal areas in Karnataka
Several parts of the state including Karnataka capital Bengaluru received heavy rains on Wednesday, causing traffic jams at major intersections. Bangalore recorded 4.3 mm of rainfall between 9 am and 5:30 pm, while coastal districts like Dakshin Kannada, Udupi and North Kannada received heavy rains, due to which IMD issued an ‘Orange’ alert. The Meteorological Department said that many districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall by August 30 and ‘Orange’ alert has been issued till 29 August for coastal, Malnad, northern internal and southern internal areas.
Rain in many parts of Delhi
Many parts of Delhi received rain on Wednesday. IMD is expected to receive more rainfall. The IMD has also warned of traffic disrupted and slippery damage to the roads, potential damage to horticulture and standing crops, and partial damage to weak structures including damage to raw houses, walls and huts. The Meteorological Department has advised people to follow traffic related counsel, as far as possible staying indoors, keeping windows and doors closed, avoiding shelter under trees and staying away from water bodies and electrical installations. The IMD has urged people not to touch the open electric wires or to stand near the pillars and immediately go to a safe place in the event of heavy rains. According to CPCB, Delhi’s air is clear. AQI was 71 on Wednesday.
