The darkest era in the history of independent India
Let us know that just before the midnight of 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an emergency. The then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the announcement on Gandhi’s advice, which was later approved by the Union Cabinet. During this time many leaders, human rights activists and journalists were put in jail and the freedom of the press was also curbed. Emergency, which has been implemented for 21 months, is considered the darkest era in the history of independent India.
What did Scindia say on the Emergency?
Recalling the Emergency, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia indirectly targeted the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and said that those who are “roam” with a copy of the Constitution, should “repent” from the Congress leaders on June 25 every year. He said, “The Congress took a dogma decision like emergency and wired the constitution, while today the BJP is working with commitment to protect the Constitution and democracy.”
