Bangalore: The High Court has canceled the state government’s order to withdraw 43 criminal cases, including the Hubli riots.
On October 10, 2024, 43 cases, including organizing fighters and politicians, were canceled. Girish Bharadwaj had filed a public interest petition challenging the government’s action. The High Court’s batsy bench, headed by CJ NV Anjaria and NKV Aravind, who heard the petition, today issued a government order. The government’s move to withdraw the 43 criminal case is now a huge setback.
What is the Hubli riot case?
On April 16, 2022, a young man put on a controversial post. The riot was held in connection with the issue, and the extremists had pelted stones at the old Hubli station. A case was registered against 11 FIRs and 155. More than 10 policemen were damaged in the incident, while two policemen were seriously injured.
The DG-IG, which had written to the SP and Commissioners of all districts of September 2024, requested to provide information on the case of case withdrawal in your districts. The decision was taken to withdraw the case against the Hubli riots at a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Siddaramaiah. The opposition BJP was heavily opposed. However, the government had withdrawn the case and issued the order.
