Bangalore: HS Venkateshamoorthy, a renowned poet, drama composer and writer in Kannada, has passed away. Venkateshamoorthy, who has been ill for the past few days, died at a private hospital in Kengeri, Bangalore today. His loss is an insurmountable loss to the Kannada literary world.
H.S. Venkateshamoorthy (HSV) is a leading poet, playwright, critic and professor of Kannada literature. He was born on June 23, 1944 in the village of Hodigere in Channagiri Taluk in Davanagere district. His father is Narayana Bhatt and mother is Nagaratnamma. HSV has spent his childhood in a rural environment and these experiences are clearly reflected in their literature.
HSV holds an MA in Kannada from Bangalore University. He served as a professor of Kannada at St. Joseph’s Commerce College, Bangalore for nearly 30 years. He holds a PhD degree for the “Poetry Poems in Kannada”.
HSV has authored more than 100 Kannada works. His major poetry anthologies include “coronation”, “doorbound people”, “Sougandika”, “Thirty Rainy season”. He has produced plays such as “steps”, “a military account”, “Agnivarna”.
A huge contribution to Kannada cinema: HSV has also contributed to Kannada cinema. He has composed songs and dialogues for films such as “Chinnari Mutta”, “Kotrashi Dream”, “America America”, “Alliance”, “Kirik Party”. He has written title songs for serials like “Free” and “Mahaparva”.
