Mangalore: Heavy rains poured into two houses on two sides of the taluk. Five of the hills were collapsed near Monteppa, two of them already rescued. On the other hand, a child named Fatima Naima (6) has died after collapsing on a compound wall in Daru. Fatima Nayem, who was first in serious condition, was taken to a private hospital in Derakatte. However, she died without responding to treatment.

Firefighters and locals protected the child after several hours of operation. The operation is in progress for the protection of those who are currently under the ruins near Montepa. Heavy rains have been submerged in many areas around Mangalore. Ulala, Kallapu, Bagambila, Pilar, Ambikarasthe, Kotekaru, Talapadi, Pavoor, Harekala, Rainy areas are aquatic.

Vacation for schools today: As a precautionary measure today (May 30), a holiday has been announced for government, aided and unaided private schools in Dakshina Kannada district, including Anganwadis, Primary Schools and High Schools. The Met Department has forecast heavy rains in Dakshina Kannada till June 2 and the Red Alert has been announced.
