Kolkata: Instagram Influenceer Sharmishtha Panoli was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram in Haryana and took him to Kolkata on transit remand and produced it in court. The court sent Sharmishtha Panoli to judicial custody till 13 June. The police had demanded remand for questioning which was rejected by the court.
Sharmistha Panoli accused of objectionable remarks
It is alleged that Sharmishtha uploaded a video on Instagram on Operation Sindoor with the silence of Bollywood actors. While speaking in this video, he made objectionable remarks on a particular religion. After receiving the complaint, Kolkata Police registered a case. After this, notices were sent to the woman and her family, but they escaped.
Court issued arrest warrant against Sharmishtha
The Kolkata court then issued an arrest warrant against Sharmishtha Panoli. After the video upload, the girl started getting threats. Seeing the controversy growing, Sharmistha Panoli deleted the video and also apologized for this. However, now Kolkata Police arrested him.

Sharmistha Panoli is an Instagram Influenceer. She is a young woman studying at Pune Law University. Sharmistha has millions of followers on social media. One of them is also from Pakistan. This Pakistani follower asked Sharmistha Panoli after the Pahalgam terror attack. At the same time, he was defending the terrorists who killed 24 people in the user Pahalgam. Sharmishtha responded to that question on 14 May 2025 while sharing a video on her social media account. In this video, he commented on a particular religion.
Controversial video posted on social media
As soon as this video shared, outrage spread among people of a particular religion. Many Muslim users from Pakistan and India together demanded an FIR against Sharmishtha Panoli. Some users even threatened them to rape and cut the neck. There was a flood of threats on his social media account. Panoli also shared screenshots of these threats on his social media. Sharmishtha also deleted the video from his account and also posted an apology.
Court rejected the application of both police and Sharmistha and sent jail
Sharmishtha Panoli advocate Mohammad Shamimuddin said that the court was told by our side that no such incident had happened. This is a completely false charge. The police have seized their phone and laptop and investigation is going on whether any such arranged video is in it or not. The bail application was filed on our behalf and the police custody was filed by the police. Both the courts dismissed and sent Sharmistha to judicial custody by 13 June.
More than one FIR has been registered against the accused. We gave a copy of two orders of the Supreme Court to the court and told that it cannot be registered separately for the same offense. In this case, notice is given under the BNSS Under Section 35 Most Relations 3 but no such notice was given in this case.
