Odisha: Noted environmentalist Medha Patkar was taken into custody by police from Raigada railway station in Odisha on Thursday. She was going to attend an event organized on the occasion of World Environment Day in Hatpada area of ​​Suunger village of Kashipur block. The event was organized by the “Maa Mati Suraksha Manch” and its purpose was to peacefully oppose the Seasimali mining project.

According to the information, villagers in Suunger area have been agitating against mining for a long time. Local people are seriously concerned about the environment and possible side effects on their lives due to ceasemight mines. In this background, a public meeting was held today, in which many other social workers and leaders of organizations were to participate.

However, even before reaching the venue, the police detained Medha Patkar and other activists with him at Raigada station. Many leaders were also detained

Other prominent leaders detained along with Medha Patkar include Lingraj, leader of West Odisha Farmers Organization Coordination Committee, Narendra Mahanti of the anti -fake case and every Baniya associated with the Jai Kisan movement.

Tribal agitators also arrested

Similarly, many tribal agitators have been arrested earlier. Today’s program was also to attend environmentalist Prafulla Samantrai, farmer leader Lingraj Azad and representatives of other organizations. At present, no official statement has been issued by the police on the incident.

Medha Patkar is a prominent Indian social worker. She is mainly known for her movements for environmental protection, social justice and rights of displaced communities. Medha Patkar is also known as the leader of the Narmada Bachao Andolan. This movement was started in protest against the large dams built on the Narmada River, especially the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The main objective of this movement was to protect the rights of people displaced by the construction of dams and open pole of negative effects on the environment.
