School vans carrying children colliding with train at railway crossing, two students died

The news of the heartbreaking accident from Tamil Nadu has come to light. On Tuesday, a school van carrying children at the railway crossing was hit by a moving passenger train, killing two students. At least six other children were seriously injured. The tragic collision took place at around 7:45 am at the manned railway crossing between Kudalore and Alppakkam, causing serious questions on the security protocol and human mistake.

Two children of the village have died in this accident. Two others are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Emergency services rushed the injured children to the nearest hospital. Eyewitnesses said that when the train came, the gate was open, although it is not clear whether the railway employees responsible for the crossing were present at that time. When a school bus crossing the railway track was hit by the train, SP SP Jayakumar said- “Two students died, two students and bus drivers were injured. Railway police, railway officers and state police are further investigating.” After the accident, repair work is going on at Sembanakuppam railway crossing.

When and how did the accident happen?

According to the information given by the Railways, the accident took place at around quarter to eight in the morning on Tuesday. The school van carrying the students tried to cross the railway crossing between Kadalur and Alpakkam. During this time the van 56813 crashed into the Villupuram-Milduthurai passenger train. Due to the collision, the van jumped some distance away from the railway crossing. After this, the injured were sent to the government hospital. According to the police, at the time of crossing the track, the driver of the van could not see that the train was coming. This caused a sudden collision and the van was completely damaged.

Whose negligence was revealed?

According to PTI, preliminary investigation by the railway has revealed that when the gatekeeper was going to close the railway gate, the driver of the van insisted on allowing the vehicle to cross the gate. However, it should not have been allowed. A committee of officers is investigating the incident. Due to alleged negligence, people attacked the railway gatekeeper, which was rescued by the police.
