New Delhi: India is preparing to install MK1 Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAM) in its indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas MK-1A. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited can start its trial by late July /or August. The aircraft is mainly designed to deal with the threat of the double front associated with China and Pakistan. MK-1A is set to be the main part of India’s strategic reaction in the next decade.

Tejas MK-1A is upgraded

MK-1A is an important upgrade compared to the earlier Tejas MK-1 variant. The center of this development is its sensor suit, which is headed by the ELM-2052 active electronically scandal array (AESA) radar of Israeli origin, which is a notable improvement on the mechanically scanned radar in MK-1. This AESA system enables trekking several goals simultaneously over long distances, even important for complex areas such as Ladakh or Northeast. It has a digital cockpit interface, smart multi-function display (SMFDS) and a Digital Flight Control Computer (DFCC MK-1A) which provides better handling at high speed and height.

Tejas Mk-1A will also be equipped with these things

Tejas MK-1A also features indigenous electronic warfare (EW). It is equipped with self-safety jammer, radar warning receiver (RWR), Countmaker Dispensing System (CMDS). This system has been imposed to the aircraft to find out the dangers of the enemy, avoid them or cheat them. It is also equipped with air-to-air refueling (AAR) and software defined radio (SDR). Which allows spontaneous integration in joint-strength and network-focused operations.

Tejas can take many types of weapons

Tejas MK-1A not only defends in a better way, but it also attacks more quickly. With nine external hardpoints, this jet can carry several weapons of Indian and Western origin. This Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile which has more than 100 kilometers can carry. It can also carry Python-5 and ASRAM, SAAW and Laser-Guided Bomb (LGB) for an accurate attack on enemy aerial areas and infrastructure. With this, the BrahMos missile can also be fired.

16 Tejas fighter jet will be made every year

Explain that the third dedicated Tejas line of HAL after Nashik, Bengaluru and Hyderabad will increase the capacity of 16 jets per year. In the financial year 2025-26, 3 to 4 MK-1A delivery plans to Nashik.

Why MK-1 is now needed to compete with China-Pakistan

Tejas MK-1A begins between a change in security equations in South Asia. Pakistan’s dependence on China has increased even more. JF-17 Block III program is very much dependent on Chinese sub-system, including:

  1. Klj-7a aesa radar
  2. The PL-15 BVR missile with an estimated range of 150–200 km.
  3. Glass Cockpit and Helmet Mounted Display (HMD).
  4. Along with this, China has deployed J-20 stealth fighter, long distance SAM and electronic war units at advance locations in Tibet and Zinjiang.
