The Coimbatore police have achieved a major success and arrested Sadiq Raja, the main accused in the 1996 Coimbatore bomb blast case. He was arrested from Vijaypura city after absconding for nearly three decades.
Sadiq, who originally hails from Gundalupat in Chamarajanagar district, was absconding since the explosion and repeatedly changing its whereabouts. He settled from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru, then Hubli and eventually Vijayapura. For the last 12 years, he was living with a fake identity card and was working as a vegetable vendor. She is married to a woman from Hubli.
Police sources say that Sadiq was also involved in other blast cases including incidents of Madurai and Nagor. The Coimbatore police took action on specific clues and kept this action extremely confidential, even Vijaypura District Police did not give any information.
Now he has been taken into custody and taken to Tamil Nadu for further investigation.
