Know what are the allegations against Mithun Reddy?
The main allegation against Mithun Reddy is that he played an important role in converting the liquor payment system from automatic to manual mode, which allegedly led to large -scale corruption in the financial process. YSR Congress Party MP PV Mithun Reddy has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam of Rs 3,200 crore. The accused number 4 (A4) Reddy in the case was detained after about seven hours of intensive interrogation at the SIT office in Vijayawada on Saturday.

What is the liquor scam of Andhra Pradesh?
According to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh allegedly had a large liquor scam of Rs 3,200 crore during the tenure of the YSRCP government. The police have accused the scam of the scam on the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s former IT advisor KC Reddy, Raj Shekhar Reddy.
Raj Shekhar arrested
The SIT arrested Raj Shekhar at Hyderabad Airport on 21 April this year. Raj Shekhar and his colleagues, including senior leaders and bureaucrats of YSRCP, are accused of involving less famous brands instead of popular liquor policy by misusing the state liquor policy, in return for which they received a bribe of Rs 3,200 crore.
With a detailed plan to get a bribe of Rs 50 to 60 crore per month, Raj Shekhar and others ensured that regular orders should be placed to those companies that used to receive bribes already fixed. Raj Shekhar is not the only big name to be reported in this case.
Names are also involved in this case
The remand report of Raj Shekhar includes prominent names like former Rajya Sabha MP Y Vijayasai Reddy, who was earlier close to Jagan, who also left his Parliament Membership and Politics in January. Another big name is from Rajampet, YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy, who is the son of former Andhra Pradesh minister Peddyreddy Ramchandra Reddy who has been arrested.
What was YSRCP’s liquor policy?
During the 2019 assembly election campaign, Jagan promised to implement liquor ban in the state in a phased manner. Soon after coming to power, in October 2019, YSRCP brought a new liquor policy, which he claimed that it was in line with this promise. The government decided to take about 3,500 liquor shops in the state under its control. To reduce the consumption of alcohol, the opening time of shops was reduced and prices were increased.
SEB installation
The liquor business was fully handed over to the Government -owned Andhra Pradesh State Drinking Corporation Nigam Limited (APSBCL). The government also established a Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) under the prohibition and Excise Department to curb liquor smuggling and illegal liquor.
Prices had to be cut in the year 2021
Over time, the popular brands gradually disappeared from liquor shops and new unknown brands were replaced. Due to a rapid increase in prices, large -scale efforts were made to smuggle liquor from neighboring states Karnataka and Telangana, due to which the government had to cut prices in 2021.
