Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary inquiry report in the case of death of six people in the helicopter accident in May in Uttarakhand. According to the report, the main rotor blade of the helicopter hit the fiber cable passing above and then hit a tree falling down from the hill. AAIB issued a preliminary inquiry report on Saturday, saying that the investigation team is working on further action to find out the root cause of the accident.
The 17 -year -old Bell 407 helicopter operated by Erotrans Services Private Limited, with six passengers, crashed 24 minutes after flying on May 8. The pilot and five passengers were killed in the accident, while a passenger was seriously injured.
Helicopter accident took place in Ganganani
Aaib reported that the helicopter was completely destroyed in the accident after flying from Kharsali Helipad at 8.11 am on 8 May, but it was not on fire. The accident occurred at 8.35 am in Ganganani, Uttarkashi.
After flying, he started getting down
In its five -page report, Aaib said that the helicopter started coming down from its prescribed height after flying for 20 minutes. The report said, “Initially, Pilot attempted to land near Ganganani on Uttarkashi-Gangotri Road (NH 34). During an attempt to land, the helicopter’s main rotor blades collided with an overhead fiber cable running parallel to the road.”
Helicopter fell down from the hill
The report further stated, “This also damaged some roadside barricades. However, the helicopter could not get down and fell down from the hill. Finally it stopped after hitting a tree in a trench about 250 feet deep.”
Helicopter was built in 2008
Placed by Rolls Royce Engine, the helicopter was produced in 2008. The US National Transport Safety Board and Canada’s Transport Safety Board have appointed recognized representatives and technical advisors for this investigation. “The investigation team is coordinating them for further action to find out the root causes,” the report said.
