Civil Aviation Minister reprimanded Western media on coverage of Air India accident

New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has criticized Western media reports on the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Sunday. He said that he had full confidence in the investigation of the Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAIB). It is not the right way to comment before the final report comes. He made this remark while talking to reporters after flagging off IndiGo flight services from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, UP.

Western media convicts pilots

He said that pilots have been criticized for the Ahmedabad Air India aircraft accident in Western media. The pilots have often been blamed for the accident on 12 June. The Wall Street Journal quoted an American official as saying that “the captain had closed switches that controlled the flow of fuel into both engines of the aircraft.”

It is not right to conclude before the final report

Naidu targeted the claims of the Western media, avoiding publishing rumors and printing without confirmation. He said that we have full faith in the investigation of AAIB. He has done a great by decoding the black box in India itself. Therefore, it is not right to conclude any until the final report comes.

According to a report by the news agency PTI, AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar said, “It has come to our notice that some sections of international media are trying to draw conclusions through repeatedly selected and uncomfortable reporting. Such action is irresponsible, especially when investigation is on.”

What is Aaib’s initial report?

Only initial investigation has revealed that the fuel-deliver switches in both the engine of Air India flight AI-171 were closed and after that there was confusion in the pilots, which a few seconds later crashed in Ahmedabad. The preliminary report released by the AAIB said that no action has been made for the aircraft operators at the moment. According to the report, when the aircraft flew, the co-pilot aircraft was flying and the captain was monitoring. The report said, “The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded speed of 180 notes IAS at 1.38 pm 42 seconds Indian time and only one second later, the fuel ‘cutoff switch’ of the Engine-1 and Engine-2 went into a cutoff ‘position from the’ cutoff switch ‘respectively.”

After flying, the pilot gave the message ‘Me de-me de-me de-me de’

The report quoted the cockpit voice recording as saying, “One pilot asked the other why he switched off the fuel, then he replies that he did not do so.” The aircraft flew at 1.38 minutes 39 seconds in the Indian time and a pilot gave a message at one at 39 minutes 05 seconds.
