Election process for the post of Vice President of the country starts, EC will announce date soon

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started the election process for the post of Vice President of the country. A press note in this regard has been issued by the Commission. The Election Commission has taken its constitutional role after Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation from the post of Vice President of India through the Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 22 July.

The Commission will soon announce the date for the election of the post of Vice President. The Election Commission wrote, “Under Article 324 of the Constitution of India, the Election Commission has the right to hold elections for the office of the Vice President of India. This election is governed by the President and Vice President Election Act, 1952 and the rules, the President and the Vice President Election Rules, 1974.

The Election Commission has already started preparations related to the Vice Presidential Elections, 2025. After the completion of these initial activities, the election schedule for the post of Vice President will be announced as soon as possible.

Preparation activities

Even before the announcement of the election, the Commission has started work on many important activities, including-

  • Preparation of the electoral college: It consists of both elected and nominated members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, who elect the Vice President.
  • Final fixation of Returning Officer/Assistant Returning Officer: Identification and appointment of officers responsible for running the election process smoothly.
  • Construction and dissemination of background material on previous Vice Presidential elections: so that all stakeholders can get necessary information regarding previous elections.

Please tell that Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from the post of Vice President citing health reasons, which has been accepted by President Draupadi Murmu. This resignation has created a stir in the political corridors. All kinds of speculations are being made about the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
