At present, Kamal Haasan is in the news for the language dispute. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday reprimanded actor and leader Kamal Haasan for his apology for his remarks that “Kannada language was born from Tamil.” The court was hearing a petition requested for security for the release of Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’. The makers of the film told the court on Tuesday that the film will not be released in Karnataka on June 5, which is the scheduled date of release across the country, after which the court adjourned the hearing till 10 June.
Security was sought after protest
Hassan’s production house Rajkamal Films International requested enough protection for the release of the film in the state in view of a comprehensive protest after the actor’s comment and a call for boycott by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. KFCC has also demanded apology from Hassan. Justice Nagprasanna said that “(by Haasan) once apologized could have resolved the situation,” he said, “The freedom of expression cannot be used to hurt someone’s, especially the people’s feelings.”
The judge said that the recent statement of the actor hurt the spirit of the people of Karnataka. The court said, “Language people have emotional and cultural identity.” The court emphasized that no person has the right to make a comment that hurts the pride of the entire linguistic community. Justice Nagprasanna questioned, “Are you (Kamal Haasan) are historians or linguists who are making such a statement?” No language is born from another language. An apology could have solved the situation. ”
