Pattanamthitta: The innocent desire to eat ‘Biryani’ in place of ‘Upma’ in Anganwadi, a small child from Kerala, changed the menu of Anganwadis across the state. A video of the cone went viral on social media 3 months ago, in which he told his mother that he should fry, not a simile in Anganwadi, biryani and chicken. The video caught the attention of Kerala’s Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George, and now her efforts have implemented a new and delicious menu for children in all Anganwadis of the state.
What for children in the new menu?
On Tuesday, Minister Veena George announced a new menu at the state-level Pravashanotsavam (reopening ceremony) of Anganwadis at Pattanamthitta. This is the first time an integrated and nutritious menu has been prepared for all Anganwadis of Kerala. The new menu includes delicious and nutritious dishes such as Egg Biryani, Pulav, Dal Payasam, Soya Dry Curry, Neutri Laddus, Kozhukkatta, and Iladeada. Apart from this, traditional and nutritious breakfasts like wheat porridge, raita, and gram vegetables will also be served to children.
Why was the menu changed?
Minister Veena George said that the new menu has been designed to improve the health of children. It has reduced the amount of sugar and salt, while protein -rich food has been increased. Earlier children were given milk and eggs 2 times a week, but now they will get 3 times a week. The minister said, ‘Our aim is not only delicious food to children, but also to give necessary nutrition for their health. This new menu will give children both happiness and health. The menu includes separate options for breakfast, lunch, and normal food, so that children get something new and delicious every day.
What did the cone tell to his mother?
The story of this major change in the menu began when a video of a small child cone living in Alappuzha, Kerala in February 2025 went viral on social media. In the video, the cone was telling his mother in an innocence manner, ‘I do not want a upma in Anganwadi,’ Biranani ‘(Biryani) and’ Poricha Kozhi ‘(Chicken Fry).’ Shank’s mother said that she recorded this video when he was eating biryani at home. They put it on Instagram, and on seeing this video went viral.
… and the cone covered on social media
On social media, people greatly supported this wishes of the cone. Some people even suggested that children should be given better food in Anganwadis, even if the prisoners in the jail have to be reduced. Seeing this video, Minister Veena George promised to change the menu immediately, and now that promise is fulfilled. After the announcement of the new menu, Shank said, “I am very happy.” Shank’s mother also praised the government’s move and said that this is a great initiative for the health and happiness of the children.
