The period of prohibition implemented in the villages of Paonta Sahib area of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh has been extended till 26 June due to fear of communal tension. There was a clash between two groups on 13 June over the alleged escape of the Hindu-Muslim couple. An order issued on Thursday night said that due to “communal tension and unstable status of law and order”, the prohibition implemented from June 13 in 5 villages- Kiratpur, Malis, Fatehpur, Misserwala and Majra under Majra police station of Pavanta sub-division has been extended by District Magistrate Priyanka Verma till 26 June.
What will continue to be stopped on?
According to the order issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNS) 2023, there will be a complete ban on gathering of five or more persons within the boundaries of these villages, carrying deadly weapons, taking out public rally, taking out a procession or hunger strike, carrying any flammable material, throwing stones or any objectionable materials, throwing any objectionable materials or provocative speech or anti -state speech.
The District Magistrate said that he has received reports from District Police Chief Nischint Singh Negi that despite the pre-preventive measures taken in the past, the law and order situation has remained unstable due to the situation of communal tension, including the recent incidents of the leaders publicly provocative speeches.
Since when has prohibition has been implemented?
The prohibition was imposed by June 19 after the stone pelting incident on 13 June. To maintain law and order, the police had lathi -charged in which more than 10 people, including police and women, were injured. So far four people have been arrested in this case. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against BJP’s state unit president Rajiv Bindal and BJP MLA Sukhram Chaudhary from Paonta. (With language inputs)
