Eight opposition parties led by the Congress have called for the Odisha bandh on Thursday to protest the death of a college student in Balasore. The student set herself on fire after not taking action on a complaint of sexual harassment against a professor. State Congress President Bhakta Charan Das said that the bandh has the support of eight parties including the Left parties. He claimed that the incident at Balasore’s Fakir Mohan (Autonom) College shows that the state government has failed to protect women. Das said that a bandh has been called for justice to the deceased student.

B.Ed. The second year student died in AIIMS-Bhubaneshwar on Monday night after struggling between life and death for three days. He set himself on fire on the campus on Saturday for not alleged action against a professor who allegedly sexually assaulted. She was burnt up to 95 percent. In this case, the principal of the college and the head of the Department of Education Department has been arrested.
