New Delhi: Kamal Haasan, the famous actor and leader of Makkal Nidhi Myyam, on Friday, took an oath as a Rajya Sabha MP and started his political journey. Kamal Haasan took oath in Tamil language in Parliament House. This is a big opportunity for him, because this is his first official role in Parliament after starting his party in 2018. Kamal Haasan’s entry in Rajya Sabha is considered part of political equations in Tamil Nadu. His party MNM supported the DMK -led Secular Progressive Alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The alliance won all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.

DMK also took oath

Kamal Haasan has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha after MNM joined the alliance in March 2024. This step is being seen towards further strengthening the alliance before the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. MNM had already issued a statement saying, “We are happy that Kamal Haasan will take an oath in Parliament on July 25 and will fulfill his responsibility.” Please tell that on this occasion, 3 MPs of DMK Rajti, S.R. Shivalingam and P. Wilson took oath. These three leaders also chose Tamil language for swearing in.

‘I feel very honored’

Kamal Haasan told the media after taking oath, “I feel very proud and honored.” On Thursday, 6 Tamil Nadu Rajya Sabha MPs were retired after the completion of his term. With the oath of new MPs, a new leadership has started in the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. Let me tell you that MNM had secured 4 per cent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and also performed well in the 2021 assembly elections, although Kamal Haasan had to face defeat in Coimbatore South seat. MNM did not participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and formed an alliance with DMK.
