‘Nation is the first … parties to improve the country’- Shashi Tharoor

Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Shashi Tharoor said on Saturday that the nation comes first. Parties are a means to improve the country. Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Tharoor said that the purpose of any party is to build a better India. He said that he will be adamant on his attitude to support the armed forces and government of the country, as he believes that ‘this is the right thing for the country’.

The Congress MP said, ‘Your first loyalty is towards whom? I think the nation is the first. Parties are a medium to improve the nation. So in my view, whatever party you are from, the purpose of the party is to build a better India in its own way.

Many people my critics because of my attitude – Tharoor

He said in an event organized on ‘peace, harmony and national development’ here, ‘Now, parties have every right to disagree on what is the best way to do so? As you know, many people have been my critics because of my attitude, because I have supported the armed forces and our government and I have taken a similar stand on what has happened on our country and our borders recently.

The Congress MP said, “But I will be adamant on my point, because I believe this is the right thing for the country.” Later, on the sidelines of the program, he told reporters that ‘Rashtriya first has always been a darshan’.

Why did India return?

He said that he has returned to India only so that he can serve the country through politics and outside politics in every possible way. He said, “I have tried to do so.”

Tharoor gave a speech on these two issues

Asked if he had any problem with the Congress high command, Tharoor said that he has not come here to discuss any politics or problem. He said, ‘I have come to give two speeches. Both speeches were on subjects that I hope the public would respect and give them importance. The first speech was about development, role of businesses and peace and harmony. ‘ He said, “The second speech was mainly focused on communal harmony and effort to live together so that we could all move forward and make progress.” (With language input)
