Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued a notification regarding the new law, taking strictness about tobacco. Hookah bars have been banned under its Chahat and the legal age of buying tobacco products has been increased from 18 to 21 years. In addition, fine has been increased for violations. Cigarettes and other tobacco products (Regulation on advertisement and Regulation of Business, Production, Supply and Distribution) (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2024 notification was issued on May 30 after the President’s approval on 23 May.

Tobacco is not used in public place

Section 4A of this Act prohibits opening or operating a hookah bar. Selling tobacco to people below 21 years of crime

The Act bans the sale of a person under the age of 21 and in a particular area in a particular area. No person will offer a cigarette or any other tobacco product sale or sale to any person under 21 years of age. The fine for smoking in public place under sections 21, 24 and 28 of the Act has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 for selling tobacco to 21 years or less people.
