According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), there have been 312 deaths since the onset of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, out of which 160 deaths are associated with rain -related disasters such as landslides, sudden floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electric shock and other meteorological events. 152 people have died in road accidents.
Loss of crores of rupees
The state’s economy has suffered a loss of Rs 2,75,354.81 crore in total, including public infrastructure, private property, agriculture, horticulture and loss of livestock. In this disaster, 1,854 animals and more than 25,700 poultry birds have also lost their lives.
Most of the deaths occurred in Kangra
SDMA reports suggest that rain -related deaths have occurred in the most, the most died in Kangra (30), followed by Mandi (29), Chamba (14), Kinnaur (14) and Kullu (13). Death has also occurred in road accidents. Chamba and Mandi have 22–22 deaths, followed by Kangra (19) and Shimla (15).
PWD told how much damage happened
The infrastructure has suffered heavy losses due to heavy rains in Himachal. The Public Works Department (PWD) has recorded a loss of more than Rs 1.53 lakh crore, while the Department of Water Power (Water Supply and Irrigation) has suffered a loss of Rs 94,772.97 crore.
Electricity sector loss of more than Rs 13,946 crore
The report said that the power sector has lost more than Rs 13,946 crore. Also, health, education, fisheries, rural and urban development, and animal husbandry areas have also suffered losses.
Housing damage includes 338 fully damaged pucca houses, 438 completely damaged raw houses, and 3,367 partially damaged pucca houses. Along with this, shops, cowsheds, workers’ huts, ghats and agricultural land have also been damaged.
And the number of dead may increase
The state government is continuing rescue, relief and restoration work. The SDMA has reiterated that contact, power supply and restoration of drinking water system is the top priority. Officials have warned that if heavy rains continue in sensitive districts, the number of dead may increase further. (Input-ANI)
