He said emotionally, “My father wanted to become a lawyer, but he could not fulfill his dream because he was arrested to participate in the freedom struggle.” Gawai said that his father had dedicated himself to the service of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Parents hard work and sacrifice

Recalling the difficulties of his family, CJI Gawai said, ‘We were a joint family, with many children. All the responsibility was on the shoulders of my mother and aunt. To fulfill his father’s dream, he gave up his intention to become an architect and chose the path of advocacy. CJI Gawai said that when his appointment was proposed to the High Court judge, his father said, “If you remain a lawyer, you will only run after money, but by becoming a judge you will follow the path shown by Ambedkar and do a good job for the society.” His father was confident that his son would one day become the Chief Justice of India. However, his father died in 2015 and he could not see the day. CJI proudly said, ‘I am happy that my mother is watching all this today.’

Hema Malini’s story narrated

CJI Gawai also shared a funny incident to lighten the atmosphere. He said that once a check bounce case came in Nagpur district court against actress Hema Malini.
