Treasure from IRS officer’s campuses in CBI Red, gold and silver worth crores recovered

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has seized gold and silver coins and jewelery with 1 crore cash in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab after raids on the premises associated with a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. The CBI has recovered 3.5 kg of gold, 2 kg of silver and Rs 1 crore cash from the officer’s campuses, who were arrested on Sunday along with one of his colleagues in a bribery case of Rs 25 lakh.

He is a 2007 batch IRS officer and was posted as Additional Director General in the Directorate of Taxes in Delhi. “The Central Bureau of Investigation searched various campuses and recovered adequate assets and objectionable materials, including about 3.5 kg of gold and 2 kg of silver, which costs around Rs 3.5 crore and about Rs 1 crore in cash.”

25 bank accounts documents

During the investigation, it was revealed that the officer has properties in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab. “Documents of 25 bank accounts have been found in a locker and various banks in various banks; and documents of immovable properties and assets located in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab have been found,” the official said.

Demand for bribe of 45 lakhs

The CBI had filed a case against the officer on Saturday, alleging that the public servant had demanded an illicit bribe of Rs 45 lakh from the owner of a pizza chain from the revenue department in lieu of favorable behavior from the Revenue Department. According to the CBI FIR, he had demanded a total bribe of Rs 45 lakh to settle the income tax notice issued to La Pinz Pizza owner Sanam Kapoor.

CBI laid a trap

The complainant said that harassment was also threatened in the event of legal action, heavy fines and non -compliance with the demand. The complainant was asked to deliver the first installment of Rs 25 lakh at his residence in Mohali, Punjab on Saturday. After this, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused’s associate, demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from the complainant on behalf of the accused.

14 days judicial custody

The accused officer was arrested on the same day from his house in Vasant Kunj in Delhi. Both the accused were produced in the nominated court on Sunday, which sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
