Washington/New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has recently announced a total of 50 percent of additional tariffs on India. Trump has held India responsible for the war, referring to the huge profits being made by the US from the Ukraine War. Although experts believe that these are just things to say, the real reasons are something else. He has given 4 major reasons behind this move of America, due to which the relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is getting to see sourness.

Experts told these 4 main reasons

According to experts, some of the main reasons for Trump and PM Modi’s relationship are as follows:

  1. Disagreement on Kashmir issue: During the visit of Pakistan’s then Prime Minister Imran Khan in July 2019, Trump claimed that Prime Minister Modi had asked him to mediate on the Kashmir issue. India denied the statement that Kashmir is a bilateral matter and the role of a third party in it is not acceptable. India’s statement was angered by Trump’s statement, which started tension between the two leaders.
  2. Canceled meeting during US elections: During the US presidential election, Prime Minister Modi sought time to meet both Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Trump not only gave time, but also announced in his rally that Modi was coming to meet him. However, Kamla Harris did not give time to meet at the last minute. Subsequently, Modi also canceled his meeting with Trump, considering unilateral meeting as unfair. The incident deeply hurt Trump.
  3. Claims on Indo-Pak ceasefire: On several occasions, Trump has claimed at least 42 times on several occasions that the ceasefire decision between India and Pakistan is the result of their mediation. On the other hand, India has repeatedly clarified that this ceasefire took place on the initiative of Pakistan. Trump’s repeated claims and India’s denial deepened the tension between the two leaders.
  4. G7 Summit and Washington Meeting controversy: Trump and Modi’s meeting was scheduled during the G7 Summit held in Canada. However, Trump suddenly left the summit and returned to America and invited Modi to come to Washington. Incidentally, the same day Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir was scheduled to meet at the White House with Trump. Modi refused to go to Washington, which Trump took personally.

Trump’s call and unknown number controversy

Germany’s prestigious newspaper FAZ mentions another incident, which further enhanced this tension. According to the newspaper, Trump called Prime Minister Modi 4 times in his new term, but Modi did not receive his call. The reason for this was told that Trump had shared his private number with Modi in his last term. However, in the new term, Trump changed his phone and number due to security reasons. It is believed that he called Modi from his new number, which was an unknown number. Because of this, PM Modi did not receive the call. Experts believe that Trump took it as a personal insult and its impact is visible on Tariff’s decision.
